Beginnings...

I write this first blog posting with children in the background acting out She-Ra.  You know the old 80's cartoon, we all grew to love in our childhoods. It is nights like this that I am reminded why our family has made the choice over the past couple of years of getting back to the basics.  We are on a journey to raise children that are mindful of sustainable living, conscious consumption, and pure joy in the simple things.

The past couple of years have been filled with trial and error and we wanted to write a blog as a family to chronicle our journey, in the hopes it would help other families start theirs or learn some tricks to finding sanity in the suburbs.  Our journey started with planting a garden and we had no clue what we were doing.  Needless to say, you can find a Youtube video or Google anything to muddle your way through.

We continue to try new things to get back to the basics, like purging the closets, using a laundry basket for a sled (Caution: Noone over 40 pounds), etc.  This blog will be our place to let others know about easy ways to make changes, even with small kids, and for us to chronicle our own progress.
